Paint It Forward 2023 - Donating Fresh Paint To Mission of Hope in Knoxville

November 1, 2023

Here at McLain’s Painting, we take giving back seriously. We’re tremendously blessed to have painted countless homes and businesses here in Knoxville over the last 24 (almost 25!) years, and look for chances to donate our skills as often as we can. It’s our way of saying thank you and showing our gratitude in a tangible way.

Our flagship event is Paint It Forward: a chance for our friends and neighbors to nominate a nonprofit, church, or other 501c3, telling us about a specific need. Our Volunteer Committee reviews these nominations, then the top 3 go to our company for a final vote.

This year, 2023, our Paint It Forward recipient was
Mission of Hope. We’d love to tell you a bit about the work they do, and also share some photos from the event itself.

Mission of Hope in Knoxville - A Very Worthy Organization!

The mountains of Appalachia may be beautiful, but they’re home to the highest poverty rate in the nation. Access is limited, opportunities are few, and often the children pay the highest price with little hope of breaking the cycle.

That’s where Mission of Hope steps in, focusing on providing support and services to these vulnerable communities, and especially to the children. Their crucial mission has three key messages: God loves you, we love you, and we’re going to help you finish high school.

The Big Day!

Around 7:30 am on Saturday, September 23, about 35 of our painters arrived to donate their time to Mission of Hope. Our day started by gathering together and listening to Mission of Hope’s spokesman, David Heatherly, speak about what their organization does. Our team then worked nonstop to meet pre-planned, critical painting needs before enjoying lunch together and wrapping up the day.

It was a complete success, and we all enjoyed the opportunity and experience so much.

Wondering how to compare painting estimates? Here are a few inside tips and insights to help...
By Charles McLain June 29, 2024
When planning a painting project, one of the most important (but often undesirable) steps is obtaining and comparing estimates from different contractors. For many homeowners in the Knoxville area, trying to find a good estimate is like trying to find a good parking spot downtown–frustrating. But does it have to be? Not if you know what to look for! In this article, we'll provide you with essential tips and insights on how to compare painting estimates effectively, so that you can get the best value for your investment without compromising on quality. Understanding What a Painting Estimate Includes A comprehensive painting estimate should detail several key components. These typically include: Labor Costs: The cost of labor can vary significantly based on the painter’s experience, the complexity of the job, and the estimated time required. Material Costs: This covers the cost of paint, primer, brushes, rollers, and other supplies. High-quality materials usually cost more but can offer better durability and finish. Preparation Work: Prepping the surfaces (sanding, cleaning, priming) is crucial for a long-lasting paint job. Ensure this is clearly outlined in the estimate. Additional Costs: These might include equipment rental (scaffolding, pressure washers), travel expenses, or special finishes. Understanding these components helps in making accurate comparisons between estimates, ensuring you're not left with unexpected costs. It also helps you narrow down companies that will give you the biggest bang for your buck. One company may be the same or even a bit higher than another, but the quality of preparation and thorough workmanship may make it a better deal.
